KINDLING THE MOON -author Jenn Bennett

"Sometimes you wish your parents would just stay dead"; got my attention in a new novel by Jenn Bennett. Arcadia Bell is our heroine who has been hiding from the law and her parents who were alleged murders for seven years, but a tv sighting of her parents have everyone looking for Arcadia. She must now prove her and her parents are not guilty. Bennett mixes magic, demons and a occult in fast changing fun off-beat debut story so real it must be magic. Highly recommend.BIC - Matic Grip Mechanical Pencil, HB #2, 0.7 mm - 12 Pencils (Google Affiliate Ad)

Peter Brett, Bujold,Victoria Laurie,John Levett

lazycat just read two books and now he is napping.
The Warded Man, The first book is a novel by Peter V. Brett.
A very interesting novel of a bizarre world where at night like vampires demon beast come out of the ground to kill and eat anything including their own wounded.  The humans live by night in warded houses and by day doing chores to live. The Wards are magical drawings past down century after century.  Men are trained in Warding, women in Healing and Messengers in carrying messages, food , metal traded between villages.  Three survivors  gradually come to gather to set humans free and destroy the demons. Excellent read ; I believe teens would enjoy it
.ook is by Lois McMaster Bujold, An author famous for her 1990 series Vorkosigan Sage.  A novel of love, war, space travel planet to planet.  The first book is SHARDS OF HONOR, where  Cordelia Naismith meets Captain Aral Vorkosigan and battle their way though an doomed battle between Barrayar and Escobar fall in love and the story goes on with their son Miles,  The last novel I just finished is CRYBURN.  A Miles Vorkosigan story again  out to save Barrayar from the planet Kiboh-daini.   The planets people are using cryogenitis to try to defeat death.  Miles was saved by battle medics using a cryounit in MEMORY.
I  must talk about the series THE SHARING KNIFE;  BEGUILMENT. Fawn ,our heroine, forced from her home travels though dangers forest, kidnapped by bandits saved by a lakewalker warrior.  Their story is so sweet with dangerous patches that keeps you interested. I urge you to read it.
Victoria Laurie.
“What’s a Ghoul to do?”  caught my attention in 2007, a title that says read me. I did and fell in book love.  M.J. Holliday a medium, ghost buster with her partner Gilley Gillespie and her lovable African Grey Parrot  race to save the ghost from being stranded and making the bad ghost get busted.
Ghostbusters
Victoria Laurie is a real life psychic and clairvoyant; how cool is that.  So is it possible her novels and characters are her life story.
Believe it or not “Abby Cooper: Psychic Eye” is terrific, believable and smart.  We connect with her and her insecurity over her “ability”, with her struggle to be herself  in the face of a gorgeous Detective who is convinced she is a fraud and guilty of murder.
to date Ms. Laurie has written 13 novels, I read them all. Now it is your turn.
John Levitt;  “DOG DAYS” ; published in 2007- Starts the three book series.
Dog Days lets us peek in the life of  Mason a jazz guitar player and his faithful sidekick Louie.
Louie is a dog or is he?  Magic moves in a city of ordinary people and buildings that may not be ordinary.
Mason is one of the magical practitioners that can see, move and create magic.  Used to enforce magic laws now semi-retired to just play jazz.
Louie and Mason face a dark magic practitioner, one that has found a “gem” that increases his magic ability.  The way he gets and keeps the “gems” become a battle for Louie, Mason and other special pets; like Louie who attach themselves to strong magic practitioners,.
A swirling story of loyalty, determination, love that plays out like a fast hot jazz score dancing the reader around.
book 1 Dog Days, book 2 New Tricks, book 3 Unleashed.

GAMES OF COMMAND -author Linnea Sinclair

Romance in the deepest space.

After the alliance of peace between the Triad and the United Coalition, Captain Tasha "Sass" Sebastian finds herself under the command of biocybe Admiral Branden Kel-Paten on his awesome high tech ship the Vaxxar.

She was allowed three other United Coalition members to join her on the Vaxxar.  But not known to them two aliens of a race that look like  cats telepathic, and able to leave and enter the ship undetected join them as pets to Sass.
Sass grew up in hardship and learned to fly a starship, but also to sneak close to fat merchant ship and with her extra super transporter remove needed items. She and Admiral Kel-Patan crossed paths many times but he always found nothing to attest for and her was amused by her lack of not being afraid of him .
Now he had her on his ship and he did try to tell her of his attraction to her but each time he got her alone time was just never enough,

I loved the "love dance" in Sinclair's dialogue between Admiral and Sass,

Romance, love growing in very believable settings

KITTY AND THE MIDNIGHT HOUR- by Carrie Vaughn

I fall in love with Kitty shared her shame, her determination not to lose her humanity.  I loved her radio show Midnight hour. It is to bad that the radio does not have a show as good as Kitty's (oh well that would fiction not  real life).  Who do you know in radio?  The only two that I know of have a show of bad langue  not entertainment.

Carrie Vaughn writes.   book One  KITTY AND THE MIDNIGHT HOUR  is about an attack by a werewolf, saved by the pack, kept by the pack till she heals and sees her humanity slipping away.  She makes the choice to leave the pack and live as a human.
book Two     KITTY GOES TO WASHINGTON   in here Kitty finds herself coming out of the closet (so to speak) changing from human lady to werewolf fangs  and all on national TV.  Kitty may be a little safe from the pack but now she is famous.
book Three  KITTY TAKES A HOLIDAY  Kitty leaves town and goes into the mountains to try to recover and reconnect with her human family.
But trouble follows , forcing Kitty to fight.  Must give in to the animal to survive.
So do we read more? I hope you do.

BLACK BLADES BLUE- author J.A.PITTS

A debut novel written in 2010 by J.A. Pitts, BLACK BLADE BLUES.  Yes I am reading it 3 years after publication but the story is worthy of first class introduction.   Entertaining, action and ancient myth mixed with magic and human compassion.

Black Blade Blues we meet Sarah Beauhall a blacksmith. Right there tells us she has strength.
She works with horse and helps a young director in a movie of vikings, dwarfs, axes and swords.

A short man came to her shop and wanted her to reforge a sword with a broken tip. She  took the sword from its  scabbard; holding it a warm longing sensation overcame Sarah.  She agrees.  But, turns out by re-forging the sword it bonds to Sarah and Sarah feels very protective of it which to Sarah is weird.
The world tilts as an explosion over the Pacific Nothwest sends fire in the sky and ground shook .  Sarah rushes to her girlfriends house. All looks ok except for the red sky and volcano exploding and a homeless man runs at Sarah yelling the dragon is freed and two giants attack him.  Sarah jumps back to her car for her hammers but grabs the sword, the old man yells something in a language Sarah does not understand but her mind and body react excitedly and Sarah is jumping, slashing, leaping and fighting two giants.
Slowly Sarah learns of trolls, orges, witches and the cost of love. To be true to yourself and hold on to your love and lover.

A Tale by ljhlazycat

I was flying home after the holidays .  I knew I was close
by the flowers the hedgehog was sniffing.

A noisy owl yelled "look out for the cat"
No, not me . I am friendly. But I am not sure of  that dog.
A dog?or a Wolf?
